Charley--I had no clue that you are a project manager by day too...that is way cool. Anyway, I prefer the Hipster PDA method as well. Office Max has this cool little holder for index cards and that's where I keep my thoughts, my to do lists, and all the stuff that comes to me when I'm in weird places. Great article.
What a pleasure to read your thoughts on catching thoughts!

I have a large moleskine cahier that travels with me from room to room. It comes to bed with me. But it doesn't leave home. Don't want to risk losing my main repository. I also have a big notebook for writing down quotes that strike me while I'm reading--that one lives by my reading chair. I only want one of each of these, not one in each room, because otherwise it's too hard to find where I wrote x. But I suffer from the downside that you mention--sometimes I wake up in the morning and my moleskine isn't there!

Then there is a little cahier that stays in my purse. ...And another little one that also stays in my purse, in which I record any stray to-do that flies by.

And in a pinch there is my cell phone, with Jott programmed on #8, so that if I remember something and have just a stop-light's worth of time to grab it, I can quick make that call and nab the fleeting thought.

Hi Jai Kai, couldn't agree with you more. My absolute favorite pasttime is taking a good pen and writing in my leather bound journal. It truly is a satisfying art. As far as idea capture goes, I just want to make sure I don't lose the idea. So, having so many options is a good thing. I've resorted to cocktail napkins previously as well, as a capture mechanism, and I've mistakenly relied on writing on my hand as well (stoopit humid weather).

Thank you very much for your comment.

I carry a note pad everywhere I go. It is one of the most valuable tools I have and use. We constantly have ideas pop up and we should definitely record them. I love old fashion hand writing as opposed to technology -although i do both, because...hand writing is an art ... a great expression...a calligraphy if you wish.
